Small Business Help from the SBDC







So yesterday I participated in this meeting from the Michigan SBDC (Small Business Development Center) about help to small businesses. Typically the definition of small business means 500 employees or less with less than 7 million in revenue annually, although there are some exceptions, but there are thousands of smaller "mom and pop" operations with 10 employees or less and many of those business have been affected by the Covid shutdowns.


The Michigan SBDC has a NO-COST program funded by the Cares act that can help business owners with consulting services as well as mental health services for business owners, as well as special waived considerations for the food/restaurant and childcare industry.


Eligibility:

-TWO or more employees (unfortunately no single member entrepreneurs at this time)

-Pre-Covid gross revenues of $1M or less

-5+ hours of consulting/training time with the SBDC over the past 2 years

-Start-ups after Feb 15, 2020 are eligible



Criteria for Restaurant/food service industry:

-NO employee count restrictions

-NO gross revenue restrictions

-Minimal review by panel

-5+ hours of consulting/training time with the SBDC over the past 2 years


Criteria for Childcare industry:

-NO employee count restrictions

-NO gross revenue restrictions

-Minimal review by panel

-1 hour consulting/training time


Criteria for Mental Health Services

-NO employee count restrictions

-NO gross revenue restrictions

-NO panel review

-NO consulting time restrictions

-NO follow up with client after due to HIPAA regulations
